Pit River Recreation Area

A raft launch located near the Pit River Campground.
There is still time to enjoy the outdoors at the Pit River Recreation Area, managed by BLM's Alturas Field Office. The Pit River is the largest river in northeastern California. Flowing through large mountain valleys and cuting through massive basalt flows, the Pit River has formed incredible canyons that exhibit unusual geological formations.
The Pit River Campground, located near Fall River Mills, is one of the most unique and aesthetic camping spots around. The campground offers sites with tables, fire rings under large pine, oak, and ash trees. Fishing is available in the river as well as in several large reservoirs and lakes nearby.
